Time to “Bid for the Kid” at the Porterville Fair

Saturday, May 14th the live Junior Livestock Auction is back at the Porterville Fair.

Local 4H and FFA exhibitors have been working hard this past year to raise a project to show and sell at the Fair. Now it is your opportunity to purchase one of these  projects to fill your freezer with locally sourced meat and a great price.

Hogs, lambs and steers will all go on the auction block Saturday, May 14th.  All of the information you need can be found on the Porterville Fair site at Junior Livestock Auction Info

Add-Ons are a great way to support these young exhibitors. Community members can download the Add-On form and then donate any amount, starting at $25.00, to an exhibitor. Maybe you do business with someone who has a child showing/selling an animal or maybe you were an exhibitor once and want to give back to someone. Add-on forms are due on the Fair office at 4pm on Saturday, May 14th.

If you are in the market for some incredible locally sourced meat, the Junior Livestock Auction is the way to go and it is very easy.

You bid on an exhibitor’s animal and then decide where you want the meat processed. That business will contact you and you can customize your order as to how you want it cut and wrapped and then they call you to pick it up.  So easy and so good.  Nothing better than Porterville Fair bacon or steaks.

If this is your first time putting locally sourced meat in your freezer, the exhibitor you purchase from or their 4H or FFA leader can help you through the process. Check with your accountant on the tax deduction that might be available from your purchase too.

Remember, if purchasing an animal is not in your plans, you can give the exhibitor an Add-On amount to offset the cost of raising the animal and to help fund next year’s project or their college education.

Porterville Community Livestock Youth is a Facebook page that is helping our young exhibitors get the word out on their livestock projects.  They feature exhibitors for the 2022 Fair, their animals and a little bit about each one.
